In a partnership with MoveOn and Working Families Party, Indivisible Kentucky is engaging in #ResistTrumpTuesdays – a weekly event aimed at lobbying local congressional officials to oppose Donald Trump’s agenda. After initially meeting on January 22, 2017, organizations across the nation held rallies two days later letting their lawmakers know one thing above all: we’re watching.
If you missed the meeting and initial rally, that’s okay! We’ll be engaging in similar activism for at least the next four years!
The next #ResistTrumpTuesdays rally is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, January 31, 2017. You can RSVP for and learn more about the event here.
How can you prepare? We need everything from sign holders to story tellers!
The most important thing you can do though is just show up and let Mitch McConnell know you won’t sit idly by as he votes in Trump’s agenda.
The point of #ResistTrumpTuesdays is simple: ongoing, visible opposition to Trump’s agenda through engagement with our local congressional officials. While we may not hold a rally every Tuesday, we’ll be engaging in directed action with a theme each and every Tuesday.
As MoveOn explained it:
At these rallies at senators’ local district offices, we will tell our senators and the media why Trump’s cabinet is not what America wants or needs. Democrats need to use every tool in their toolbox to delay and stop these nominees, and Republicans need to oppose these nominees if they care about draining the swamp.
If you’re able to make it this Tuesday, we look forward to seeing you! The theme of this week’s rally will be “NO BAN, NO WALL, MITCH MCCONNELL TAKE OUR CALL!”
Some other things to keep in mind:
- If you have an old wired phone, bring it for visual effect!
- If you have poster board, make some posters. Be sure to include the #IndivisibleKY hashtag so media picks it up!
- While last week we focused on Trump’s cabinet nominees, this week we’re focusing on Trump’s ban on Muslim refugees entering the US, the wall on the Mexico border, and the fact that Senator McConnell has a nasty habit of shutting off his voicemail, and not answering the phone when we try to call.
- The rally starts promptly at 11:30 am!
If you’re not able to take part in Tuesday’s rally at Senator McConnell’s office, be sure to share pictures and news stories you see about the rally on your social media channels as well as telling your family and friends.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to resist since we (and #ResistTrumpTuesdays) aren’t going anywhere.
